The following is frequently asked questions when booking a bow hunt in Africa. Please feel free and Contact Roger if you have any other questions or concerns, we will be more than happy to help.
WHICH IS THE BEST MONTHS FOR BOWHUNTING IN NAMIBIA?
February until May is what we refer to as the “green season”. The bush is green with natural open waters from the summer rains and best for walk-n-stalk hunting.
June until August is during the Namibia winter, trees have lost their cover and open waters in the bush have dried up and animals come to the blind waterholes on a daily basis, if you are after Kudu this is premium time as the Kudu rut starts late May.
From September until October the day temperatures rise significantly; the bush is very dry.
TRAVELLING TO NAMIBIA WITH MY ARCHERY GEAR
CAN I HUNT DANGEROUS GAME WITH THE BOW IN NAMIBIA?
NO, it is illegal to hunt with bow and arrow any of the following dangerous game animals:
Buffalo – Crocodile – Elephant – Hippo – Lion – Leopard - Rhino
WHAT BOW SHOULD I BRING FOR MY NAMIBIAN BOWHUNT?
VIERANAS SAFARIS is geared to accommodate modern and traditional bow hunters.
Compound bows ranging from 60-70 pounds are more than adequate for normal plains game. Bigger animals i.e. Giraffe require more than 70 bow pounds. So basically your normal set-up that you would hunt with at home will be in order, one good 450-500 grain arrow set-up will cover all huntable game.
CROSS-BOW HUNTING ARE ILLEGAL IN NAMIBIA.
WHAT TYPE OF ARCHERY EQUIPMENT SHOULD I USE ON AFRICAN GAME?
Over the years we’ve found that a cut on impact broadhead with a strong central column with fixed or replaceable blades works best. Mechanical broad heads are legal to hunt with in Namibia but preferable on smaller game only.
WHAT SHOOTING PRACTICE CAN I DO?
Practice at the furthest distance that you feel comfortable in a sitting and standing position on level ground and from a tree stand. It is also advisable to practice in the gear you intend to wear for your Namibian hunt.
WHAT DOES THE BOW HUNTING BLINDS LOOK LIKE?
All our permanent pit blinds are custom build from natural materials and designed for modern and traditional bow hunters, spacious and fitted with comfortable seating and hooks for you bow and other archery hunting gear with enough room for at least 2 hunters and their professional hunting guide.
The blinds have one main shooting window with an adjustable peephole curtain and a small, off to the side, window where a camera could film without getting in the way of the shooter.
Portable blinds are set-up on used game trails in ambush.
HOW LONG IS THE SHOTS OVER WATER?
The hides are located at permanent watering points with a maximum shot distances with the bow at 30 yards, most shots are closer than this when the game are relaxed and unaware of the hunter.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I WOUND AN ANIMAL?
A wounded animal will be tracked and if not found accepted as taken and therefore paid in full, evidence of this will be demonstrated to the hunter by visual blood signs, so please take your time and put them down with a well-placed shot. Tracking wounded game costs money and takes time away from your hunt.
CAN I CONTACT HUNT REFERENCES?
Yes, you are more than welcome to contact hunters that hunted with us in the past, send me a mail and I’ll forward a list of references and their contact details.
I will personally work on every detail of your Bow Hunting Safari in Namibia ensuring you the best personal service. Look forward to hearing from you.
